Cuneiform: Krakatoa – We Are The Rowboats / Dieses Wochenende für FIVE

„Given the musical evidence, it’s not surprising that three members of Krakatoa began their professional careers as members of a pit band (the Lost Art of Puppet Orchestra) for an avant-garde Philadelphia puppet theater….This is an enjoyable recording, start to finish, filled with surprises, strange interludes, twists, turns, and a wide assortment of musical moods.“ – AllMusic

Glendon Jones – violins, guitar, mandolin, cuatro
Ted Casterline – bass, guitar, vocals, loops, baritone guitar, percussion
Val Opielski – keyboards, guitar, vocals, percussion
Ely Levin – drums, percussion

Krakatoa were a very exciting band who emerged out of Philadelphia and then relocated to Brooklyn. They played a ton of shows and developed their own sound very quickly.

Blending precise musicality and compositional skill with charm, playfulness and humor; their music was the unlikely meeting place between art rock, baroque cartoon music, progressive rock and chamber punk.

They had released two previous albums, but We Are The Rowboats was their third (and – as it turned out – final) release.  Krakatoa utilized rock and classical instrumentation to channel surf and subvert the musical landscape, borrowing from every imaginable musical genre, while sounding ONLY like themselves.
