Fiercely intense and beautifully intricate, Enemy spotlights three brilliant musical minds: bassist Frans Petter Eldh, pianist Kit Downes and drummer James Maddren.
These three musicians from London and Berlin strive for ‘total music’, with each of them contributing equally in an authentic aesthetic display. On top of that, the music of Enemy is very intricate and the performance is tight-knit. The energy of the musicians is infectious; their compositions are challenging and full of contemporary beats and astounding changes. Enemy’s recent debut album was produced by the bassist and co-composer Frans Petter Eldh, for whom electronic music and sampling have been crucial in his approach to music. The other composer in the band is Kit Downes, the British pianist who garnered acclaim last year for his solo album on ECM Records. Drummer James Madden from London has previously collaborated with, among others, Marc Copland, Gwilym Simcock and Jacob Collier.
‘Remarkably vital, passionate and intense’ (Written in Music).
‘Enemy is a delight. Even at breakneck tempos, there’s still time to soak in the honesty and vision of a truly cohesive outfit’ (Downbeat).
