Abdullah Ibrahim „African Magic“
Als Abdullah Ibrahim 1994 zur Amtseinführung von Nelson Mandela spielt, ist das nicht nur eine Ehre, sondern auch ein später Triumph über die Apartheid, derentwegen der südafrikanische Pianist Jahrzehnte im Exil verbracht hat. Dort hat er aus Grooves und religiösen Hymnen seines Heimatlandes und dem Einfluss von Duke Ellingtons Kompositionen einen Sound geformt, der ihn weltbekannt gemacht hat.
